Results Participants: 656 gaymen, 505 heterosexualmen,430 lesbians and 588 heterosexualwomen.Gaymenweremore likely thanheterosexualmento score above threshold onthe Clinical Interview Schedule, indicating greater levels of psychological distress (RR1.24,95% CI 1.07^1.43), aswere lesbians compared withheterosexualwomen (RR1.30,95% CI1.11^1.52).Gaymen and lesbianswere more likely thanheterosexuals to have consulted amentalhealth professional in the past, deliberatelyharmed themselves andusedrecreational drugs.Lesbians weremore likely to have experienced verbal andphysical intimidation and to consumemore alcohol thanheterosexual women.
